It's Friday! There was so much learning this week. I was impressed today whenever I walked by the class (I was collaborating today with the other grade 6/7 teachers) to see the engagement and focus. When I walked by the group that was discussing 'In My Enemy's House' I was impressed with all the ideas being shared and the deeper thinking that occurred. This unit continuing to deeply engage the students.
1) Lit Circles - read and blog if you would like
2) Math - get your math test signed if not already done, begin to review for retest if need by reworking the questions from the test
3) Toonie Tigers - bring in a toonie if you wish to adopt a Tiger from the Greater Vancouver Zoo. The money goes toward improving habit, conservation and preservation.
Enjoy your three day weekend.
Riddle: I have lakes but no water, streets but no cars, and I'm in one piece. What am I?
Answer to Thursday - pencil sharpener
Comment: What do you wonder about? If you were given the chance to learn about anything what would it be? Genius hour allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. Starting next Friday we will be learning more about Genius hour and make choices about what each of us wants to explore. Share your wonders and make sure they are not yes/no questions as any topic you choose to explore must be one that incorporates critical and creative thinking.
I am a grade 7 teacher who has been teaching in the Surrey School District for over 28 years. I love to read, garden, walk, and spend time with family, friends and my golden retriever Kona.
