It was a hot one today. So happy that the kids are able to manage the heat and still focus on the last few items.
The Science projects were handed in this morning. I will begin the marking process and can't wait to read their work. This was a project that the students really invested their time and energy into.

Comment: Each of your novels has focussed on poverty in some small way. Beyond that, what is a theme that has come out of the book? Share two pieces of evidence to help convince me that this is a theme.

The novel I'm reading is "Lost Riders".

Go with the flow is one because if you don't do what your supposed to do you will get beat. Also because if you try to escape and manage to, they will come after you soo, I'm glad that I'm not one of those kids. But still, why do they still have child labor as a thing? Why haven't this been stopped? D:

Well I'm excited that there is no homework soooo, see you all tomorrow! :D

Captainmaniac, child labour is still happening, because company owners cannot afford to hire proper personnel, so they hire children for a much lower wage.

The novel I was reading and finished is "Iqbal".

I think the theme from this story is about freedom and believing. A piece of evidence from the novel is how Iqbal's perseverance and courage took everyone to freedom. It is a right to be able to be free and live the life of being in a world full of freedom. Throughout the entire story, Iqbal had so much belief in him that it took him to a level no child in slavery would ever think of doing. His freedom dream took him to the level where freedom is excepted and life is freely given. Believing is very important. Iqbal and Fatima believed that one day, the glory will come and the dream will come true. As Iqbal said in the story: "I will escape, and then you and I will fly a kite". This is Iqbal telling Fatima that we will escape and one day, we will see what it is like to fly a kite.

Overall, i think this is the theme. Freedom, and believing the impossible. Iqbal did the impossible. He was the impossible.

Anyway, see you all tomorrow and have a fantastic rest of the night!

Sincerely,
Amelia Pond:)

The novel that I read is Ashes of Roses.

I think that the bog idea of the book is to never give up because even when the main character's experience many tragedies she didn't give up making a better life for her sister and self. When the main characters Rose and Maureen first came to America, they had to leave some of their family behind, they weren't welcomed by their relatives, and Rose and Maureen's mother went back to Ireland. After that, when they were left to fend for them selves they had a hard time finding someone that would let them rent a room because they were girls. When Rose started her new job and made new friends, the shirt waist factory caught on fire and she had to watch her friends fall to their deaths. After all these tragic events, Rose and her sister didn't give up and go to Ireland, instead they tried again to make a better life.

See you all tomorrow. :)

The book that I read was The Breadwinner.
A theme in The Breadwinner, was courage. This is because Parvana (the young girl in the story) was the only one in her family that was willing to take the risk, and confront the Taliban. She didn't care if she got hurt or punished, she would try her best to support her family.
Have an awesome night! 🍉

The book that I am reading is titled "Lost Riders." I think that the theme is to try and make the best of what you can. Kind of like the saying "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade." I think this because when he gets sent to the ubza, he is sad, but soon makes friends to try and improve his experience. He also tries his best. Instead of sitting around and just waltzing up to the camel all, "I am just going to wing it," he practices and sees how well he can do.

See you all tomorrow!

I think that the theme is bravery. In the book the breadwinner Parvana shows a lot of bravery she turns herself to a boy and is very worried that the Taliban will noticed but she still go's out there and has hope. Connecting to this the mothers says all girls are brave and should stand up for themselves yet she doesn't show it herself? The only time she does is when she goes to the prison and that is another part she is brave in. Parvana turns herself to a boy and does not care if she gets punished for it she just ants whats good for her family.

The novel I read was lost riders. A theme that I got was that we are lucky to have what we have, and should learn to appriciate it, because the kids in lost riders, didn't have education, and were abused, and kind of put in to slavery.

I think that one of the main ideas in "ashes of roses" was don't give up. Many unfortunate things happened to Rose. For example, her family left her in a foreign country, her boss made a move on her and she watched her oy friends die. That's barely half! Through all these hard times she never gave up. Because I was so in love with this novel I read the acknowledgments and the epilogue and the authors note I found some interesting information. You would think by hoe the book ended that they went back to Ireland or had some other terrible fate but actually, it teens out that some of the survivors from the fire got more rights for factory workers in the future. Not Rose Nolan particularly because she's fictional I believe, but the real people from the real event.

Disturbing fact: something my group discovered today during our discussion was the title "Ashes Of Roses" was the colour of rose's best dress but in the book, she counted roughly seventeen girls named rose at the factory. They say in the novel one hundred and forty six people survived. Lots of math and logic later, most of the roses would have been killed, including Rose Nolans bffs who are both named rose, therefore it's literally the ashes of roses. The ashes of people. 😨

On that lovely note, I will see you guys tomorrow!

The novel I read was The Breadwinner.

I think the theme in the Breadwinner is perseverance and bravery. I think that it is bravery because the main character Parvana is a girl and when the Taliban took over Afghanistan girls were not allowed outside the house and all windows had to be painted black. Parvana dresses up like a boy to support her family after her father got arrested. She was quite brave because what if the Taliban found out. She would be whipped to death pretty much. I think it is perseverance because Parvana persisted through very tough events and nothing stopped her. Another sign of perseverance was when she was working. Some days she would get tons of money others she would get none. It took perseverance for her to pull through and not give up.

I am reading Lost Riders.
I think a theme in the book is that when you go through difficulties, make the best of it. Rashid was just randomly sent to an uzba, and he became the best camel jockey there, and in the end everything turned out.

I am reading the book the paper house. So I think that there is a few big ideas but the main one that stood out for me is that you can still live a good and happy life without any money. I think this because most people think to have a better life when you have money. When in this book the girl and her family do not have any money she wants magazines she goes through the garbage. When she was still having a good life. So I think that the big idea is that you don't need money to have a good life.

Have a great night!

The book I am reading is “Iqbal” I think one of the main themes of this book is perseverance and determination. Throughout the entire story Iqbal showed determination to get out of the illegal factory and free all the other children living in slavery. During the book he would face some obstacles but he definitely showed perseverance and was able to push through. In the end Iqbal freed many children and made a huge impact on many people.

See you guys tomorrow!!!

The book I am reading and finished is The Paper House

One is to trust people even If you don't know them because Cu cu didn't want to go to the doctor because she didn't trust them and she thought they would have no idea whats wrong with her but the doctors made Cu cu a lot better then she was before. Second is to never think of bad things that have happened in the past because Safiyah always thought of her mom dying and the lady's house getting set on fire and people that have died in her village.

I think that the big idea of 'Ashes of Roses' is that you should never give up. Rose went through tremendously hard obstacles once she entered America, but she kept going. Even when her mother left her alone with her sister in America, she still persued with her life. No matter what happens she would do her best to make the situation better and keep living her life. Even if that meant having everything crumble around her during the process.

The book I am reading is called "Ashes Of Roses"
I think the theme for this book is that you should never give up. I think this because Rose had a lot of obstacles in her path throughout the book, her baby brother had an eye infection and couldn't come into America, her mom and one of her sisters left, her boss became a stalker, and that's not even half! But through it all, she faced every challenge with determination and managed to get through it.

Disturbing thought!
My group came up with this idea:
The book is called "Ashes Of Roses' correct? Well, my group and I came up with a theory that the author named the book this because at the end, there are about least twenty girls named Rose, and out of, I'd say five hundred girls, one hundred and forty-six survived. Some math later...
At least two Rose's died, probably more. In a fire. Fire makes ashes. Ashes of the girls named Rose. Ashes Of Roses.
Disturbing I know.

Riddle!
What is the most curious letter?

The book that I read was "the lost riders." I think the big idea is go with the flow because when Rasid goes to the uzba he is obviously unhappy but he realized that he can't do anything about it so he tries to make the best of it by making friends.

The book that I am reading is called "The Paper House."
The big idea for this novel is to follow your dreams because Safiyah followed her dreams a lot to finish the mural of her journey to Kiberiea.
My evidence for my big idea is when Safiyah was going through tough times and she had to follow her dreams that one day she will go to school just like her friend Pendo. Some more evidence is when she thought that Pendo ruined the mural so they weren't friends for a bit but then Safiyah followed her dreams again to be friends with Pendo again.

See y'all tomorrow. :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)!!!!

I think the big main theme in the book the Breadwinner is to be independent and brave I think this because pavana show at least a slight bit of bravery but ha the book goes on you can tell her bravery has come a long way. My evidence for her being independent is because she has to be a boy and she has to do that herself and she is holding all the pressure of making the money and other things.

see ya all later bye!

The theme in my book is chilled slavery definitely just because they are chained up so they can't leave then they were forced to make carpets for 15 hours. I'm pretty sure that this book is about child slavery just from what I said up there. Oh and my book is Iqbal. See yeah all soon.

The theme in my book Lost Riders is there is always a silver lining and go with the flow. For the silver lining there is one part in the book when Puppo leaves with his parents. Nobody is happy to see him go, but that frees up a spot. That spot just happens to be taken by Rashid's brother, Shari. For go with the flow, Rashid could have not cooperated and tried to run off but he would have been beat and most likely die from starvation. But he decided to just go with the flow and he became his uzba's top jockey.

One theme that came out was that if you got so far you shouldn't give up. First example is that he din't give up in the race he kept going. Second he didn't give up on staying and waiting for his mom or dad he stayed.

My book is the Breadwinner
I think the theme of the book is bravery! Parvana had to make a big decision, and that decision needs a lot of bravery, which Parvana did a helpful and brave decision, to protect her family. Another piece of evidence is that Parvana went outside dressed like a boy to get food for her family, she could have gotten cought and went to prison! But her bravery saved her live.
See ya all soon:)!!!
